9. How do I move from my old host to verelink.com?

Changing web hosts can be a scary and intimidating thing. After all, your website is the face of your organization what if something goes wrong? Well, don't worry, it is usually not as difficult as it seems. This tutorial will show you how to move your website to Verelink, without interrupting your service.

Step 1: Transferring HTML/Image based websites

If you have a website that consists of HTML, Javascript code, and images, it will be simple to move your site to Verelink from your current host. This means that your website does not use more complex coding and features, such as PHP or MySQL databases. First, fire up your FTP program and access the root folder of your previous host. The root folder just means the folder where you can see all of the other folders on your current website. Download all of the folders and files onto your computer. Then, access the public_html folder on your new Verelink account (this is our root folder) and upload all the files and folders from your computer. You should be maintaining the same file and folder structure that was on your previous host. If you need help with FTP, you can read our FTP tutorial here.

Step 2: Verify that your website is being served correctly

Make sure all of the files are appearing properly on the Verelink service. You have a temporary URL that you can access your files with until you switch your domain name to reflect the Verelink server. This temporary URL is included in the welcome email that is sent to you that contains all of your account access information. This URL follows the form below:
http://kenosys.com/~yourusername
This version of the website may not be perfect. If you are linking to your site URL, like http://www.yoursite.com, then clicking on this link will take you to your current host rather than the Verelink one. If you are using relative links, like "../index.htm," then you will have no problems. If the site looks okay, then it is time to change the domain name to point to your new account.

Step 3: Make your domain name point to the Verelink server

When we enable your account on Verelink, we are preparing our server to receive visitors who come from your domain name. To make sure that people who enter your domain name are going to the new host, rather than the old one, you need to change the DNS information on your domain name. Basically, you should login to your domain name information on your domain registrar, and change the DNS information to the domain name server info provided in your welcome email.

Conclusion
The above instructions show how to move a simple website from an old web host to Verelink. If your website is more complex, and has installed scripts and database information, please contact the Verelink support team for more detailed help. We thank you for choosing Verelink for your web hosting needs!
